'Kemari' is a soccer-like game, which had gained great popularity in Heian era among the aristocracy. This ancient game is played annually at Shimogamo Jinja Shrine. Their brightly colored court costumes and the voice they hang when kicking the ball will lead you to the time of elegant imperial period. |

"Toshiya" Hall Archery at Sanjusangen-do Temple (January 16, 2011 from 9:00 to15:30) |
This New Year event is called "Sanjusangen-do Toshiya", originally started in the 16th century, and it is a Japanese archery competition shooting arrows through a 60-meter corridor at the temple.
